It is said that “necessity is the mother of invention.” Maura Flynn Doherty can attest to that.
A mother of three, Maura was frustrated by the lack of durable and stylish barrettes available to pull back her hair. Barrettes were either too heavy or broke too easily. Maura decided to try making her own barrettes. Once she began wearing her own hand-made barrettes, she started to hear from other women who shared her frustration with the lack of styles. Encouraged by the positive reaction and realizing there was a need, Maura decided to make and sell these barrettes.
In 2005, Maura was joined by family, and Chesapeake Rose was born; with the first line of barrettes launched at shops along the New Jersey Shore.
Answering the tremendous demand for their barrettes, beginning in the summer 2006, Chesapeake Rose will be found in beach shops all along the East Coast.
